In April 2026, we were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the new John Hunter Hospital.
Kim, Cath and Helena from Ruby Mae’s Wish were given a tour of the new family area connected to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), allowing us to truly visualise the space we are helping bring to life.
Thanks to the generosity of our amazing donors and the dedication of the Ruby Mae’s Wish Coastrek walking team, we are proud to be contributing to the fit-out of this very special area. It will provide a safe, welcoming environment for parents and carers who find themselves at John Hunter Hospital during some of the most difficult and critical moments of their lives, often when their child requires lifesaving treatment.
The family area includes two bedrooms and a kitchenette, all located right next to the PICU. This means families can remain close to their child while ensuring medical staff can quickly reach them whenever needed.
Our vision is to create a space that offers comfort, support and a moment of calm amidst the uncertainty and stress that families face during a hospital stay.
We are incredibly excited to see this project come together and can’t wait to share the finished result with you all. It’s already looking like something truly special, and we know it will make a meaningful difference for families for many years to come.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and helped make it possible. 💜
