The Ruby Maes Wish Education Day was held at Barraba Hospital on the 10th of September 2025.
The education day had participants from all across New England Northwest, participants included Drs, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses. The education was provided by the John Hunter Paediatric Intensive Care Team with a total of 8 Health Professionals coming to be the presenters for the day. The team consisted of Paediatric Intensivist, Clinical Nurse Educators, Nurse Unit Manager and the Retrieval team.
It was so exciting to see a team with such a wealth of knowledge willing to travel to the country to deliver education and in turn for the team to see what challenges rural regional hospitals face.
The education day is a full day from assessing sick kids, to managing a deteriorating child until retrieval, trauma and Sepsis.
This aloud rural clinicians learn from the best, increase their knowledge and upskill in these scenarios. this being valuable education if a child presents to any of the participants hospitals giving them the education to be able to look after a deteriorating child.
The Team also enjoyed a farm visit and a campfire dinner the day before the education day.
we can’t thank the PICU team enough for their willingness to provide the education and traveling to rural health care settings.
